Coronavirus Update

Friends,

I wanted to provide you with additional information that may be helpful to you as our country moves forward with addressing the challenges associated with Coronavirus. As a reminder, you can also stay in touch by following my Twitter account at @RepJackBergman or Facebook page @RepJackBergman for continued information.

Today the CDC announced that over $560 million will be awarded to state & local jurisdictions in support of COVID-19 response. You can read the full release here.

To see the state by state breakdown, please visit the Department of Health and Human Services website.

Last week, Congress passed $8 billion in emergency funding, which was signed into law by President Trump, to combat coronavirus. This funding package will help speed the development of vaccines, bolster access to testing and treatments, and expand access to telemedicine services. Our country is also dramatically increasing the number of tests - private companies began shipping lab tests this week - which will in turn exponentially increase our testing capabilities.

IMPORTANT REMINDER: Although many First District constituents travel during this time of the year, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advised against cruise ship travel worldwide, and recommended that older adults or people with underlying health issues avoid "crowded places, [and] non-essential travel such as long plane trips."

Staying Healthy:

  • Make sure to wash your hands.
  • Refrain from touching your face.
  • If you're feeling sick, stay at home.

If you have symptoms of coronavirus – fever, cough, shortness of breath – and have been to China or any affected areas in the last few weeks, or have been in close contact with someone who is showing symptoms, make sure to contact your health care provider immediately. If you think you may have coronavirus, the CDC recommends calling your provider ahead of time for guidance on how the facility is handling cases before visiting the hospital in order to keep others from being exposed.
