Bergman Demands Accountability for Presidential Family Members with “Hunter Amendment”

Today , House Democrats voted on party lines to block Republicans’ attempt to advance Rep. Jack Bergman's common-sense “Hunter Amendment” to H.R. 5314 – Protecting Our Democracy Act, whichwould have cracked down on family members of the President and Vice President who improperly profit from foreign powers - such as the likes of Hunter Biden.

Hunter Biden has famously been investigated for various shady deals, such as with China, on behalf of the Biden family and selling political access to foreign entities.

Rep. Bergman stated, “In the same way a President or Vice President should not profit from their official positions, neither should their family members or the likes of Hunter Biden. I’m disappointed but not surprised the Democrat leadership in the swamp shot down this common-sense amendment.”

Adam Schiff’s bill, H.R. 5314, continues Democrats’ obsession with President Donald Trump by imposing unnecessary policies on the Presidency while protecting career politicians. Rep. Schiff is known for promoting the entirely disproven Russia Hoax, and his new legislation is a partisan distraction from President Biden and House Democrats’ multiple ongoing crises.

Specifically, the Hunter Amendment - which featured the support of Reps. Randy Feenstra, Rick Crawford, Glenn Grothman, David McKinley, Randy Weber, Tom Rice, Bob Gibbs, and Pat Fallon - would have amended H.R. 5314 to make immediate family members of the President and Vice President subject to penalties and enforcement under the emoluments clause of the U.S. Constitution.
