Bergman Picked to Lead Republicans on VA Subcommittee on Health

Today, Rep. Jack Bergman was appointed to become the next Ranking Member of the VA Subcommittee on Health.

The Subcommittee on Health’s responsibilities include oversight of medical services, research, facilities, and compliance at the Veterans’ Health Administration. In his new role, Rep. Bergman will seek to keep the Department of Veterans Affairs’ Veterans Health Administration under President Biden accountable and focused on delivering care to our Nation’s Veterans.

Rep. Bergman issued the following statement:

"I'm grateful for the opportunity to serve as the Ranking Member on this important subcommittee. Over 9 million Veterans are enrolled to receive care in the VA system and Congress must ensure these Veterans have access to the care they have earned. I appreciate Ranking Member Bost's support and I look forward to working with him and the entire Committee as we tackle these issues most critical for our Veterans."

Ranking Member Mike Bost said, “After serving as Chair and then Ranking Member for the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations for four years, I am thrilled that General Bergman will now lead the Republicans on the Subcommittee on Health. He was a leader in the Marines, and he has been a fighter on our Committee since coming to Congress. I am grateful for his continued commitment to our work. I am excited to keep serving our fellow veterans alongside him."

Rep. Jack Bergman serves on both the House Armed Services Committee and the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs. Rep. Bergman served in the United States Marine Corps for 40 years, as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam, and most recently as Commander of Marine Forces North/Marine Forces Reserve - retiring at the rank of Lt. General.

Rep. Bergman will also rejoin the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations where he previously served as the Chairman and Ranking Member.
