Congressman Bergman's Statement on President Trump’s Decision to end DACAWashington – Following President Donald Trump’s announcement on Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), Congressman Jack Bergman (MI-01) released the following statement:
Washington,
September 6, 2017
“The Constitution is clear; Congress has the authority to create legislation, not the executive branch. The Obama Administration exceeded its constitutional authority by unilaterally imposing DACA, and the Trump Administration is correct in asking Congress to address this issue. The United States can remain a welcoming nation without sacrificing our national security or the rule of law. The House and Senate must work together with the President in crafting solutions to address gaps in our immigration policy.” |
