President's FY21 Budget Includes Funding for Soo Locks, First District Priorities

Today, President Donald Trump released his FY 2021 budget request, which included many First District priorities, such as funding for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative and continued investments for a new Poe-sized Lock in Sault Ste. Marie. Rep. Jack Bergman issued the following release:
"While Congress ultimately has the final say in the budgeting process, I'm grateful President Trump has prioritized Michigan's First District in his FY 2021 budget. From rural broadband connectivity and national security needs, to protecting our Great Lakes and building a new Lock in the Soo - this budget is a major victory for the constituents of the First District." The President's FY 2021 Budget Request Includes: - $320 million for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI); - $123.2 million for Construction of a New Lock in Sault Ste. Marie; - Record funding for the Department of Veterans' Affairs; - Investments in Veteran suicide prevention initiatives; - Critical funding for the Essential Air Service (EAS); - $250 million to the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Rural e-Connectivity "ReConnect" program; - Additional resources to address PFAS contamination; -$13.5 million for the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Bureau of Indian Education to expand broadband access in Indian Country; and -Expanded access to telemedicine services for rural or vulnerable patient populations. |
