Bergman Statement on Opposition to H.J. Res 77

It’s reckless to force every Member of Congress to vote on something as significant as H.J. Res. 77 prior to even receiving a classified briefing from the Secretary of Defense or Chair of the Joint Chiefs. While this is par for the course in D.C. politics, it’s unacceptable for elected leaders. That’s why I opposed H.J. Res. 77.

Each vote we take, especially in relation to our national security and foreign policy, should be well informed, setting all politics aside.

Withdrawing our troops is not a decision that should be taken lightly. We must guard against a leadership vacuum in those areas and ensure the fight against terrorism and radical ideologies is not fought on our home turf.
