Bergman Original Cosponsor of Legislation to Impose Sanctions Against Turkey

Today, Rep. Jack Bergman (MI-01) joined House GOP Conference Chair Liz Cheney (WY-AL) in introducing legislation that seeks to impose sanctions against Turkey in response to Ankara’s military offensive against U.S.-allied Kurdish forces in Northern Syria.

Bergman stated, "As a Commander in the Marine Corps, I know firsthand the commitment and sacrifices made by our Kurdish allies in the fight against ISIS. The Turkish military's latest offensive in northern Syria is a clear effort to destabilize the region. This will most likely erase the progress made by the United States and our allies in the fight against ISIS and will likely create long-term national security threats. Far-reaching sanctions on the Turkish government signal that we denounce the reckless actions of the Turkish forces against innocent civilians and our Kurdish allies." |
