Bergman Statement on NDAA Markup Vote
Washington,
June 13, 2019
Congressman Jack Bergman issued the following statement after voting no on the House Armed Services Committee's markup of H.R. 2500, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2020:
"The National Defense Authorization Act has a longstanding history of bipartisanship as it provides for our national defense and supports our men and women in uniform. This year’s NDAA, however, does not build upon the progress that’s been made over the past several years, and contains provisions that led me to vote no on the bill’s final passage in committee. I’m optimistic that as the NDAA moves through the legislative process, it will improve to a point where I can vote in favor of the bill." Congressman Jack Bergman served in the United States Marine Corps for 40 years, as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam, and most recently as Commander of Marine Forces North/Marine Forces Reserve. He retired in 2009 at the rank of Lieutenant General. After being elected in November 2016, Bergman became the highest ranking combat Veteran ever elected to Congress. |
