Bergman: No Pay Raise For Congress

Washington - Congressman Jack Bergman introduced an amendment to the upcoming funding package to stop Democratic House leadership from giving Members of Congress a pay raise. Congressman Bergman issued the following statement:

"The constituents of the First District of Michigan sent me to Washington to get things done, not give myself a pay raise. House leadership should focus on making sure more money is in the pockets of hard working Americans, not Members of Congress,” said Bergman.

“In the past 40 years, Congress has passed all of its appropriations bills on time on only four occasions. Washington is broken – a reckless spending addiction, repeated senseless government shutdowns, dysfunctional immigration policies, and red tape on every front. Yet last week, Democratic leadership proposed and defended giving Members of Congress a pay raise. Until we can actually work together to find solutions on issues affecting so many of our constituents, we don’t deserve to even have this conversation.”

Last week the Hill reported that "Hoyer and House Appropriators Back Potential Pay Raise For Congress."

Rep. Bergman introduced a bipartisan amendment that would "Bar Funding For a Cost of Living Increase for Members of Congress."
