House Passes Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Bill
Washington,
May 14, 2019
Congressman Jack Bergman, Ranking Member of the VA Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, released the following statement after the House passed H.R. 299, the Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Act of 2019:
"I've witnessed firsthand the scope of Agent Orange exposure experienced by our service men and women in Vietnam. The dedicated Navy Veterans who served our country in the Blue Water of Vietnam have not had the same access to the benefits and disability compensation as those who served on the mainland. These men and women deserve better. I'm proud that the House was able to come together today and pass H.R. 299. I will continue to urge my colleagues in the Senate to follow our lead and send this important bill to the President's desk." Congressman Jack Bergman served in the United States Marine Corps for 40 years, as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam, and most recently as Commander of Marine Forces North/Marine Forces Reserve. He retired in 2009 at the rank of Lieutenant General. After being elected in November 2016, Bergman became the highest ranking combat Veteran ever elected to Congress. |
