Bergman Votes No on Gun Control Legislation

Congressman Jack Bergman released the following statement after voting against H.R. 8 in the House of Representatives:

"I oppose any attempt to restrict legal access to firearms for law-abiding citizens and will continue to fight against measures that limit my constituents’ Constitutional rights. H.R. 8 blatantly infringes on 2nd Amendment rights, and this short-sighted legislation has the potential to make felons out of those following the law. The bill is so far out of the mainstream, it would make borrowing a hunting rifle a felony, and subject the lender to the same criminal penalties of those who purchase a firearm for a known dangerous criminal.

"Although this legislation includes the word bipartisan in the title, it's just a far-left attack on those who legally own and utilize firearms. H.R. 8 offers no real solutions to the gun violence facing our country. In the days ahead, I will continue fighting to protect the rights and freedoms of all First District constituents."

Congressman Bergman has supported measures that would help close loopholes in the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) and promote school safety. These issues remain of paramount importance in the 116th Congress.
