Bergman Continues Fight for Great Lakes Restoration Initiative Funding

Washington - Congressman Jack Bergman, Member of the House Committee on Natural Resources, issued the following release after signing a letter to urge full GLRI funding:

"Since being elected I've been an advocate for the Great Lakes and all of the First District's beautiful Natural Resources. This week I signed on to a bipartisan letter with my colleagues in the House, urging the 'Appropriations Subcommittee on Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies' to fully fund the GLRI for FY2019.

"Recently President Donald Trump proposed his budget request to Congress, which included a drastic cut to Great Lakes funding. However, Congress has the final say on funding for important initiatives such as the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI), and I will continue to fight to protect these programs that are so important to our district."

The letter can be read Here.

"The work being done through the GLRI to ensure our Great Lakes remain vibrant is critical to the health of our Great Lakes, our communities, our rich sportsman heritage, and the economy of northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula." - said Bergman

Congressman Jack Bergman led the fight to keep full funding for the Great Lakes Restoration initiative in 2017 and will continue that fight in the years ahead.
