Bergman Releases Statement on Increasing Access to Rural Broadband in 2018
Washington,
January 9, 2018
During his speech to the American Farm Bureau, President Trump highlighted key obstacles facing the agriculture industry and signed two Executive Orders to assist in expanding rural broadband. Congressman Bergman released the following statement after President Trump’s address in Nashville: “In Michigan, agriculture is one of our largest economic drivers, contributing over $101 billion to the state’s economy. Access to broadband has become a growing need for farms and many rural businesses to succeed. Michigan’s First District is largely rural in nature and connectivity is one of the greatest inhibitors of economic growth, not only for our farmers, but for all of our residents. “Access to high-speed internet is essential to moving the First District’s economy forward, and I applaud the Trump Administration for taking this step to help bring broadband to our rural communities. As we seek to attract and retain our next generation of professionals in communities throughout Northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula, broadband connectivity is essential in achieving this goal. Working with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to increase funding and access to high-speed internet for our rural communities will remain a top priority of mine in 2018.” |
