“Having served alongside General Mattis, I know he is the right man, at the right time, to lead the Department of Defense. Marines are trained to lead by example—and under General Mattis’ leadership, DOD can lead the way in responsible federal spending. General Mattis is moving forward with a full-scale audit at DOD for the first time in U.S. history. This top to bottom audit is the largest ever conducted and continues the process of applying accountability at all levels of government. As a fiscal conservative, I’ve said many times that the United States government must be held accountable for every penny of taxpayer money received and spent – especially when committing resources to the defense of our nation. “Our men and women in uniform work each and every day to safeguard the freedoms we hold dear. It’s our responsibility to ensure they’ve got the training, resources, and support necessary to carry out their mission. This audit by DOD is a critical step in changing the federal government’s culture of spending and ensuring the Pentagon’s resources are allocated to warfighters in the most efficient and effective way possible.” |
