Bergman-Supported Laken Riley Act Passes House

Today, the House passed H.R. 29, the Laken Riley Act. When signed into law, this legislation will give Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) more tools to fight against crimes committed by illegal aliens in the United States.

Following its passage, Rep. Jack Bergman issued this statement:

“While legislation and condolences cannot bring Laken Riley back, this critical bill is the 119th Congress’ first step to help ensure these crimes committed by illegals never happen again. It’s an absolute shame that this legislation was not passed sooner, but today, the Republican-led House passed this pivotal bill. Democrats and Republicans in the Senate should immediately pass the Laken Riley Act and have it on President Trump’s desk ready to be signed on day one.”

Earlier today, Rep. Bergman introduced another vital piece of legislation to restore the Trump-era Victims of Immigration Crime Engagement (VOICE) office, that President Biden terminated after taking office.

Bergman noted that the VOICE Act would re-establish the VOICE Office within the Department of Homeland Security, ensuring victims of illegal immigrant crime have access to the partnerships, resources, and support they need.
