Representative Jack Bergman and House Budget Committee Chairman, Jodey Arrington, recently commissioned a report by the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to investigate whether the Biden Administration blocked the use of taxpayer funds to build a wall along the southern border, which was what the money was specifically designated for by Congress. Predictably, the report confirmed that Biden’s Department of Homeland Security had misused appropriated tax dollars to prop up their liberal environmental agenda instead of securing the border.

Rep. Bergman stated, “Thanks to the investigation led by Chairman Arrington and I, the truth has finally come out. Biden spent taxpayer dollars that were intended for border security to advance his leftist environmental agenda. The report we commissioned from GAO found that Biden’s DHS ‘used congressionally-appropriated funds meant for the wall to pay for environmental planning.’ Disgraceful doesn’t even begin to describe this affront to the American People or the sabotage of our national security.”

As reported by the Daily Caller, “In 2021, DHS released a report detailing how it would look to redirect funds meant for the wall to instead pay for things like ‘environmental planning,’ reviewing upcoming eminent domain actions and considering environmental remediation efforts in areas that had been the site of previous construction, according to GAO’s report. The agency then changed its plans in July 2022, applying an amendment that made environmental remediation a top priority for the agency’s expenditure of the funds appropriated for fiscal years 2018-2021.”
