Bergman Joins Michigan Colleagues in Calling on DOJ to Investigate “Death to America” Chants in Dearborn

Representative Jack Bergman and four of his Republican colleagues in the Michigan delegation are calling on Attorney General Merrick Garland to investigate the International Al-Quds Day rally in Dearborn where individuals chanted “Death to America,” and “Death to Israel.”  The rally held on April 5 is just one example of the rising number of anti-Semitic events which has taken place in the United States following the brutal Hamas terrorist attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.

The letter to Attorney General Garland was also signed by Representatives John Moolenaar, Tim Walberg, John James, and Lisa McClain.

In the letter, the Michigan lawmakers told Garland:

We are writing to call for you to investigate the recent rallies held across the US, where participants chanted “Death to America,” “Death to Israel,” and advocated for violence against the United States and its allies. These anti-American and anti-Semitic calls for inciting violence are not protected speech and pose a serious threat to public safety and the American values of freedom and democracy.
