Bergman Named Chairman of Veterans Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations

WASHINGTON – House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Committee Chairman Phil Roe, M.D. (TN-1) announced today that Representative Jack Bergman (MI-1) has been selected to serve as Chairman for the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations. The subcommittee’s role is to provide oversight on programs and operations of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and other federal agencies that operate on behalf of Veterans. In fulfilling its responsibilities, the Subcommittee conducts hearings, site visits, and investigations nationwide.

“Rep. Bergman has been a tireless advocate for Veterans, having served in the Marine Corps and National Guard himself,” Chairman Roe said of Bergman, “and I’m confident he will keep fighting to improve the lives of our nation’s heroes as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations. I look forward to working with Rep. Bergman to pass meaningful legislation to reform the VA and continue the committee’s diligent oversight.”

“One of my highest priorities here in Congress is making sure the processes and programs that are in place are working in an efficient and effective way,” Bergman said. “It’s no secret that the VA has been plagued by a culture of corruption and complacency, and while Congress has made some inroads in addressing those issues, we still have a lot of work left to do during the 115th Congress. As Chairman of the Veterans’ Affairs Committee’s Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, I’ll have the opportunity to fight for an accountable and transparent VA. As a Veteran of the Vietnam War, I’ve seen first-hand the sacrifices that our Veterans and their families have made on behalf of this country and its people. Making sure that they get the benefits they’ve earned is the least we can do in return.”
