Congressman Bergman Released the Following Statement Following the House Passage of HR 2936

“I’m pleased that the House passed the Resilient Federal Forests Act today. For too long bureaucratic overreach has stifled proper forestry on federal lands, with devastating results to our environment. Our nation’s federal lands are home to some of our most important natural resources, and without a competent management plan in place, diseases, pests, and wildfires will continue to ravage our nation’s forests. We spend billions of dollars each year in wildfire suppression, which leaves barely any financial resources to allocate towards actually managing our forests. A proactive management approach can help prevent these devastating wildfires that continue to destroy homes, properties, and millions of acres of forest.

“Michigan’s First District is home to the Ottawa, Hiawatha, and Huron-Manistee National Forests. Proper management of our nation’s forest helps make the Upper Peninsula and northern lower a place where families can work, play, and live. I’m proud to have supported HR 2936 to protect northern Michigan’s economy and our environment”.
