Bergman Signs Conference Unity Pledge, Encourages Every Member to Sign
Washington,
October 21, 2023
After announcing his candidacy for Speaker of the House, Rep. Jack Bergman (MI-01) signed a pledge to support the Republican Speaker Designate following Conference voting, and encouraged all of his colleagues to join the pledge.
Bergman noted, "The American people elected a Republican majority to lead our Nation, put a stop to Biden's dangerous policies, and to protect our way of life. We've been wandering in the desert for over two weeks now with no Speaker and no way to accomplish the jobs we were elected to do. When we come out of Conference with our Speaker Designate, every single Republican must work together to elect them as Speaker and get our government back on track." Bergman announced his candidacy for Speaker following Rep. Jim Jordan's withdrawal from the race. The pledge is consistent with Rep. Bergman's history of voting for Speaker on the Floor. Bergman voted for Rep. Jim Jordan all three votes, Rep. Kevin McCarthy in each of his votes on the floor, and was prepared to vote for Rep. Steve Scalise when he was the Speaker Designate. See Rep. Bergman's signed pledge here. |
