After the House passed the Building a Better America Budget, Congressman Jack Bergman released the following statement:
Washington,
October 5, 2017
Today, the House voted to pass the Building a Better America Budget, for FY2018. I ran on a platform of getting Washington’s spending under control and the government off the back of the hardworking people of Michigan’s First District. By balancing the budget, cutting spending, and opening the door for tax reform, this budget is key to getting Washington D.C. back in order. Without a change, our mandatory spending will overtake our entire national budget - leaving no room for important investments in the NIH, national security, and other successful discretionary spending items. It’s up to us in Congress to bend that curve and reign in our spending habits, which is why this budget calls for mandatory spending reductions of at least $200 billion. It is time for the government to work for We, the people, and this budget does just that. Today, I voted to increase economic opportunity, to ensure safety here and abroad, and to begin the process for tax reform. The groundwork laid today will truly build a better America for future generations.
