Congressman Jack Bergman issued the following release after the House passed H.R. 1328, the ACCESS BROADBAND Act:

"Since taking office, I’ve been committed to helping expand rural broadband for residents of the First District of Michigan. Connectivity is essential to learning, business, health care, and day-to-day life. Expanding high-speed access will allow for economic and educational growth across the Upper Peninsula and northern Lower,” said Bergman.

"This bipartisan bill passed by the House today will help advance rural broadband access by assisting underserved communities with strategies to expand and improve services.  This is another step in the right direction to ensure First District constituents have the connectivity and access needed to live, work, and play in this great place we call home."

H.R. 1328 would require the Department of Commerce to establish the Office of Internet Connectivity and Growth within the National Telecommunications and Information Administration.

This Office will:

• Track broadband expansion work; 
• Coordinate federal support programs to improve efficiency;  
• Connect with communities that need access to high-speed internet and improved digital inclusion efforts;
• Communicate effective strategies for promoting broadband access and adoption; and
• Hold regional workshops to share best practices and effective strategies.
