Congressman Jack Bergman congratulates this year’s First District winner of the Congressional Art Competition. Nina Helppi, a student from Calumet High School has won first place, with her work "Quincy Mine."

Each spring, high school students from across the United States are invited to participate in the Congressional Art Competition through their respective congressional offices. Artists from the First District are called upon to judge the submissions. The winning selection will be displayed in the Cannon Tunnel to the U.S. Capitol for one year for Members of Congress, dignitaries, and the thousands of people who tour the Capitol each year to see.

The winner will be provided two free airline tickets to visit Washington, D.C., and view her painting in the Cannon Tunnel.

"The Quincy Mine is a monumental landmark in the Upper Peninsula, and Nina's painting does a phenomenal job portraying exactly that," said Bergman. "Participation in the competition was high this year, and I'm so proud of the work that each of these young students have done. I look forward to seeing them succeed in their endeavors in the upcoming years."
